From jeffersonhunt.co.uk Cockburn's “Port is definitely a drink for the summer, as well as the winter,” explained Jo Smith, brand manager for Cockburn’s at Allied Domecq Spirits & Wine (UK) Ltd (ADUK). “ Serve Cockburn’s® 10 Year Old Tawny straight from the fridge to accompany pre-dinner nibbles such as nuts or olives. Drinking chilled tawny port as an apéritif is very common in Portugal and is becoming more popular in the UK”
The famous Cockburn’s® ‘grip,’ which describes the drier style of Cockburn’s ports, delivers a characteristic firmness on the palate. It gives Cockburn’s 10 Year Old Tawny a complex nutty character with real ‘moreish’ qualities. Served chilled, this wine provides a refreshing yet rich and indulgent taste experience, perfect for summer evenings.
For a longer, equally refreshing, alternative summer drink, try Cockburn’s® Light White in a ‘Portonic’. To create a ‘Portonic’, one of Porto’s favourite aperitifs, this crisp, slightly sweet white port wine should be served chilled, mixed with tonic (two-thirds tonic to one-third Light White), ice and a slice of lemon served in a tall glass. Portonic can be served in a pitcher for outdoor entertaining and makes a deliciously different barbeque drink. Cockburn’s Light White can also be drunk on its own or over ice, simply served chilled in a wine glass.
“Encouraging consumers to experiment with chilled tawny and Portonic is a great way of demonstrating how diverse Port can be,” continued Smith. “Christmas will always be an important focus for Cockburn’s, but we want to demonstrate to our consumers how port can be enjoyed throughout the summer as well.”
