Glasgow Rangers defender Lorenzo Amoruso, has been named The Scottish Football Player of the year by his fellow professionals in an awards ceremony sponsored by Teacher’s Scotch Whisky.

The Italian held off the challenge of the Celtic captain Paul Lambert to become the fourth overseas player in a row to win the award.

In a glittering ceremony that read like a who’s-who of Scottish football, Amoruso was highly praised for his outstanding consistency throughout the season by the Scottish Professional Footballers Association and Allied Distillers Managing Director Paul Porter-Smith, who presented the Award on behalf of Teacher’s Scotch whisky.
