Almost 2,000 celebrities, Formula One drivers and socialites celebrated the start of the British Grand Prix with Mumm Champagne at the exclusive Cantor Fitzgerald Silverstone Grand Prix Ball set in the spectacular location of Stowe School on Friday 5th July.
The annual event – one of the most glamorous and decadent parties in the social calendar - included a £30,000 firework spectacular, a casino and charity auction, plentiful Mumm champagne and dedicated butler service to each VIP table. Partygoers ended the evening dancing the night away to a host of top international artists including The Stereophonics, Steve ‘Come up and see me smile’ Harley, Pete Devereux (Artful Dodger) and the newly reformed pop divas Sister Sledge.
Amongst the revellers were seven lucky winners and their guests of an ‘e-marketing’ Mumm / F1 web-based competition organised by Allied Domecq Spirits and Wine (UK) Ltd (ADUK) which attracted over 2,500 entrants in five days.
“Oh, what a night!” said Philippa Fairweather, one of the lucky winners for whom it will always be a particularly memorable occasion: “The performers were taking us through the night, then suddenly amongst all this nocturnal star-spotting activity, my boyfriend seemed to have suddenly fallen on the dance floor... the record screeches to a halt (in my mind) but no, he's actually only on one knee. Through my deliciously dizzy Mumm champagne haze and Sister Sledge singing my favourite song ‘Frankie’, I hear him ask, ‘… will you be my wife?’ What a crazy night of fun, glamour and engagement!”
Mark Wallace, Senior Brand Manager for Champagnes at ADUK says, “Champagne Mumm’s sponsorship of the Silverstone Grand Prix Ball is a relatively small, yet important part of our overall involvement with Formula One racing. This year we are fully exploiting the role of Mumm as the official champagne of Formula One through a number of marketing initiatives. We provided top class Champagne hospitality facilities at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone itself and are currently running a major Formula One promotion across the on and off trade in the UK, offering consumers 100,000 chances to win a holiday of a lifetime across the world to visit an international Grand Prix.
“However, I think for many partygoers on Friday night the exhilaration of being part of the Silverstone Grand Prix Ball truly summed up what Mumm Champagne is all about. With helicopters flying in and out full of celebrities, top class entertainers providing the cabaret and Mumm Champagne flowing freely – it certainly was a night to remember.”
