Internal data sources at Allied Domecq Spirits & Wine Ltd (ADUK) suggest that a record number of dads across the UK celebrated Father’s Day with a bottle of LAPHROAIG 10 Years Old Scotch Whisky.
ADUK sales data shows that Laphroaig increased sales by 163% in June 2002 compared to the same period last year. “This is an all-time record for Laphroaig”, says Liz Hodson, Brand Manager for Laphroaig malt whisky. “History told us that Laphroaig was a winner during this important period, but to sell an additional 77% above our own ambitious forecast and 148% above the annual 15% increase in malt sales during this period is a real bonus”.
The Father’s Day performance for Laphroaig is the latest in good news for the brand. AC Nielsen data for the UK off trade for the period ending April 2002 shows Laphroaig growing by +27% MAT with the malt category as a whole putting on just +5% MAT over the same timeframe.
In Scotland AC Nielsen data shows Laphroaig to be the fastest growing malt whisky brand in the off trade with MAT sales up by +48% to April 2002 in a market, which was flat (0%).
