Beringer Blass has announced a new multiple grocer listing for one of their key California wines, Beringer Stone Cellars White Zinfandel 2002, which is now available through Asda at an RRP of £5.49.
Beringer Winemaster, Ed Sbragia, first produced a White Zinfandel style for Beringer over 20 years ago in response to the growing number of wine consumers who were interested in drinking light, rosé-style wines expressing a refreshing fruitiness. Since its inception in 1983, Beringer’s White Zinfandel wines have grown from a small, experimental idea to be some of the most popular wines in the USA.
Sbragia comments, “White Zinfandel is one of the hardest wines to make. It takes the most attention and care, ensuring that the grapes are left in contact with the skins for only a few short hours, and then diligently monitoring the wine to arrest the fermentation at exactly the right moment.
“For the 2002 vintage our focus was to highlight the fresh red berry, citrus and melon aromas and flavours and round these out with subtle hints of nutmeg and clove. The wine has a youthful exuberance that is appealing to anyone looking for an uncomplicated wine to accompany a meal.”
Norbert Heinl, European Brand Manager at Beringer Blass, comments, “This new listing for Beringer Stone Cellars White Zinfandel kicks of a renewed off trade focus for Beringer Wines in the UK. In the coming months we will be building on the current strong reputation for Beringer amongst discerning UK wine consumers aged 28 and above and investing in a range of brand building activities to further support our distribution drive in this area.”

NOTES TO EDITORS
Established in the Napa Valley, California, in 1876, Beringer Vineyards produces award-winning premium varietal wines across a broad spectrum of prices.
Beringer has the honour of appearing on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list more times than any other winery.
There are four different tiers from the portfolio available in the UK.
· Beringer Stone Cellars – Named in honour of the original stone winery built in 1876, these are flavourful, classically structured wines that combine the quality of Beringer with the accessibility of a smooth, fruit-driven style for everyday drinking. They are perfect as an aperitif or with a variety of dishes.
· Beringer Founders’ Estate – Beringer Vineyards honours its founders, Frederick and Jacob Beringer, through the rich flavours of Beringer Founders' Estate wines. Whilst the name reflects the Beringer legacy that began in 1875, the wines reflect the company’s continued commitment to quality and the pioneering viticultural advances made in recent decades throughout California.
Made in a style that focuses on California’s bright fruit with ripe tannins and balancing acidity, Beringer Founders’ Estate wines are both complex and of exceptional quality and easily match with a wide range of foods.
· Beringer Appellation Collection – Throughout California, a limited number of superior wine grape-growing areas have achieved the rank of “appellation.” The vast diversity of soils and micro-climates in these appellations dictate the specific varietals that will flourish in each area, resulting in wines with intensity and richness of aromas and flavours that are a discernible signature of excellence.
The Beringer Appellation Collection is produced from top quality grapes grown in our own Napa Valley, Knights Valley and North Coast vineyards. These wines are the ultimate Beringer expression of ‘terroir’ from these exceptional estate properties.
· Beringer Private Reserve – Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Merlot have won awards and international acclaim for nearly two decades. These flagship wines primarily reflect the knowledge, experience and passion of two masters: vineyard manager Bob Steinhauer and winemaster Ed Sbragia.
“I create Private Reserve wines by choosing the most expressive fruit from a handful of vineyards. My goal is to craft wines with complex aroma, flavour and structural profiles that layer the individual vineyard characteristics into a cohesive and balance whole.” Ed Sbragia.
